Gretchen Scherer's studio is located in Brooklyn, NY. She meticulously renders historic interiors in oil and acrylic, emphasizing frescoed ceilings, baroque niches, and salon-style art collections. Focusing on real places primarily around Europe, Scherer is fascinated by the architectural details and the stories objects reveal about who lived there. Scherer received a BFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with an MFA from Hunter College. She has received a Graf travel grant to Berlin and has attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and The Vermont Studio Center Residency. Scherer is represented by Monya Rowe Gallery.
